Lumenfold 1.10: Mathematical Art You Can Hear and Project
We kept seeing beautiful images made from formulas: fields that fold into themselves, particles that gather into a current, and fractal structures that look different every time they move. We wanted to experience that work beyond a still image, on a large screen, with music that belongs to the scene. That is why we built Lumenfold.
From formulas to living images
Lumenfold is an offline-first gallery of real-time artworks. Each work is implemented as a custom Metal shader and tuned for motion, depth, and readable interaction on iPhone and iPad. The engine turns fields, folds, fractals, raymarching, and other mathematical structures into visual spaces that keep unfolding while they play.
The point is not to expose a technical demo and leave the viewer to operate it. Pick a work, start playback, and the visual surface becomes the experience. You can pause, steer, tune the scene, inspect its source notes, and return to the gallery without leaving the artwork behind.
Every artwork has its own soundscape
The visual formula is only half of the piece. Every artwork in Lumenfold has an independent soundscape designed for its own pace, density, and color. The music gives the image a sense of arrival and movement; the image gives the music a place to live.
You can also enable microphone response when you want the current work to react to live rhythm and frequency. Analysis happens on the device. Lumenfold does not record or upload the microphone audio.
Made for the big screen
A phone is a good place to discover a work, but these images are meant to leave the phone. Lumenfold supports AirPlay, HDMI, and local display workflows so a room, television, or projector can become the canvas. The artwork stream goes to the destination you choose, while the controls stay close at hand.
This is the part we cared about most: the app should make it easy to turn a small, personal screen into an ambient visual space without requiring an account or a hosted gallery.
A quiet first release
Lumenfold 1.10 is our first release of that idea. It is a focused gallery rather than a social feed, a cloud service, or a collection of disconnected demos. Works, controls, favorites, selected images, playback preferences, and artwork adjustments stay local. Sources and licenses are disclosed inside the app, and the Lumenfold product guide explains the privacy boundary in more detail.
We made Lumenfold because mathematical art deserves both precision and atmosphere: formulas rendered with care, sound chosen for each work, and a screen large enough to share the result.
